Carers Support
Anyone can be a Carer. A Carer is a person who may look after a family member, partner, or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, mental health problem, or addiction and cannot cope without their support.
The care they provide is unpaid.
Who Are Carers?
Carers come from all walks of life and provide essential support to those in need. This can include:
- Family Members: Parents, children, siblings, or extended family members.
- Friends: Close friends who step in to provide care and support.
- Neighbors: Community members who offer their help.
The Role of a Carer
Carers assist with a variety of tasks, including:
- Daily Activities: Helping with bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
- Medical Support: Managing medications, attending medical appointments, and providing physical therapy.
- Emotional Support: Offering companionship, listening, and providing reassurance.
Cultural Appropriate Care Support
Within minority communities, many carers do not initially see themselves as carers, however recognising oneself as a Carer is the first step towards accessing the support and resources available.
The African Caribbean Care Group (ACCG) has a rich history of supporting carers from the African Caribbean and other racially marginalized communities within Manchester. As the Carers Manchester Central locality lead, we aim to inspire and support carers by:
- Empowering Carers: Offering guidance, education, and advocacy to help carers thrive.
- Providing Access to Support: Ensuring carers have the resources they need.
- Reducing Barriers: Addressing and overcoming challenges faced by carers in marginalized communities.
Our fully trained staff are dedicated to creating a supportive, friendly, and safe environment.
We are committed to providing your loved ones with the courtesy, care, kindness, and dignity they deserve.
