Executive Director 

Job Title: Executive Director
Salary/Rate: Starting at £42,000 per annum (plus 5% employer pension contribution)
Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible working may be required)
Location: Manchester
Accountable to: ACCG Board of Directors

Job Purpose

The Executive Director is responsible for providing overall leadership, strategic direction, governance, and operational management of ACCG. The post holder will ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, culturally appropriate services while maintaining financial sustainability and strong partnerships. The role includes leadership of fundraising, organisational development, staff management, and continuous improvement to meet community needs.

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of the organisational strategy, ensuring alignment with ACCG vision and community needs.
  • Provide visible leadership, setting clear priorities and direction for staff and stakeholders.
  • Support and advise the Board, ensuring it has the information required to make informed decisions.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on organisational performance, finance, and risk.
  • Embed a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Operational Management & Service Delivery

ESSENTIAL:

  • Oversee all operational services, ensuring they are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with agreed standards.
  • Establish systems to monitor service performance, outcomes, and impact.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are implemented, monitored, and continuously improved.
  • Maintain compliance with policies, legal requirements, and quality standards.
  • Lead the management of incidents, complaints, and service concerns in line with procedures.

Financial Sustainability, Fundraising & Growth

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising and income generation strategy.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities through grants, contracts, and partnerships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, commissioners, and donors.
  • Oversee the preparation of high-quality funding bids and reports.
  • Monitor budgets and ensure effective financial management and accountability.
  • Identify opportunities for service expansion, diversification, and growth.

Partnerships & External Relations

  • Act as the senior representative for ACCG at local and regional meetings and forums, or delegate as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Promote ACCG services and achievements to increase visibility and engagement.
  • Influence policy, service development, and partnership working to address inequalities.
  • Engage with the community to ensure services remain responsive and inclusive.

Workforce & Organisational Leadership

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to staff and managers.
  • Ensure effective HR processes including recruitment, supervision, appraisal, and development.
  • Ensure the staff handbook is updated regularly in line with government legislation.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment.
  • Support staff wellbeing and professional development.
  • Develop leadership capacity within the team to ensure sustainability.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of safeguarding, data protection, and health and safety.
  • Develop and review policies and procedures regularly.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks to the organisation.
  • Prepare for and support audits, inspections, and monitoring visits.
  • Provide assurance to the Board on governance and compliance matters.
  • Ensure systems and processes support efficient and effective operations.
  • Oversee IT infrastructure, ensuring security and reliability of data.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting across all areas of activity.
  • Continuously review and improve organisational systems to support growth.

Attributes:
Qualifications/Training
Essential Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent level of skill
     
  • Postgraduate qualification in health care or related topic
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Experience in strategic planning and organisational development

Desirable Criteria

  • Masters Degree or Equivalent qualification in Health Care
     
  • Management qualification in Health and Social Care

Knowledge & Experience,
Essential Criteria

  • 3 years’ experience of management within a health and social care environment
     
  • Experience in managing staff, services and operations
     
  • Previous experience of Influencing change
     
  • Experience of managing budgets and organisational resources.
    Experience of working with Board of Trustees (Directors)
    Proven experience in fundraising or securing funding
  • A working knowledge of the NHS and Community Care Legislation
     

Desirable Criteria

  • Working with older Adults and /or those of African Caribbean Heritage
  • Experience within health, social care, charity or community sectors
  • Experience of managing funded programmes or contracts
  • Experience in partnership development or stakeholder engagement

  • Experience using AI/assisted administrative tools
  • Experience of using a database e.g. Charity Log
